Cape Mentelle Cabernet Sauvignon put Margaret River on the map in the early 1980s, with consecutive wins of Australia’s most prestigious wine award, the Jimmy Watson Trophy. Where better to discover the wonders of cabernet than at this exceptional winery, where the pristine coastal location, unique soils and 47 years of viticultural history lend themselves to wines of great distinction? This year’s event sees UK Master of Wine Jancis Robinson and Huon Hooke giving their comments on the wines through the morning. Your day will begin in the winery’s atmospheric cabernet cellar, where you’ll get up close and personal with 20 cabernets tasted across three brackets. After a flute of palate-refreshing Veuve Clicquot champagne served in native gardens, you’ll be ready for a long lunch prepared by chef Kate Lamont. Carefully designed to match all those cabernets you tried earlier. The final line-up of wines will be confirmed shortly, and as always, will include some of the greatest cabernet labels from around the world! As a gift, guests will also take home a pre-release bottle of the Cape Mentelle 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon in gift box. This event is part of Margaret River Gourmet Escape.
